Disaster Recovery has transitioned from a cost per GB discussion on media to a pure recovery metric. The key to that recovery metric is the recreation of server, storage, networking, applications, and how those components were previously integrated. The challenge is that our data might be preserved but the recovery might be compromised by dozens of patches of the operating system; dozens of patches to the application, and the reconstruction and interaction of these components. Protecting data is paramount to recover but exactly replicating a server or servers is the key to fast and accurate recovery.
